As many as 10 unidentified individuals allegedly attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) district headquarters in Tarn Taran on Monday. Armed with sticks and batons, the group vandalised the premises while raising slogans such as “Punjab Ekta Zindabad” and “Bharatiya Janata Party Murdabad.”
According to reports, BJP workers managed to apprehend one of the attackers, but the situation escalated when the assailants began pelting bricks at the office. Party workers rushed to protect themselves and the premises during the chaos.
The attackers also reportedly splashed ink inside the party office before fleeing the scene. It was further claimed that gunshots were fired during the incident.
BJP district president Harjit Singh Sandhu said that while some attackers had covered their faces, others were not masked. Senior Superintendent of Police Surinder Lamba stated that the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras and that a police team had been dispatched to gather evidence and investigate the matter.
Party workers and members of the public were reportedly present inside the office at the time of the attack.
