Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said on Monday that the state’s economic position had “improved manyfold” during the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime on the back of an “unprecedented hike in income”.
Cheema said money accrued from increased income would be used for strengthening infrastructure, sports stadiums, roads and environment in rural areas.
Taking to The Tribune after addressing a gathering on formal installation of office-bearers of zila parishad and block samitis, Cheema said, “As income multiplied, we decided to allocate more funds for rural development through Panchayati Raj Institutions.” He added Rs 20 crore were sanctioned for Malerkotla.
