Players and officials ahead of the teams’ departure for Puducherry. The tournament is scheduled from May 22 to May 29.

The state teams headed for Junior National Basketball Championship, scheduled to be held at Puducherry from May 22 to 29, received a warm sendoff on Wednesday.

Promising players Shaurya Sachdeva and Bhumika, both trainees of Ludhiana Basketball Academy, have been entrusted with the responsibility of captaining the boys and girls teams, respectively. National Basketball Championship scheduled to be held at Puducherry from May 22 to 29.

Officials, coaches and basketball enthusiasts expressed confidence the teams will bring laurels to the state with spirited performances. Both teams comprise a blend of talented and hardworking players who have shown remarkable performances during training and selection trials.

Along with Shaurya Sachdeva, the boys’ team has Jobandeep Singh, Suhaan, Jivitesh, Danish Sukhnain Singh, Manjot Singh, Rakshit, Yodhveer Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Divjot Singh and Romanjot Singh. Jaipal Singh and Jaspreet Singh will travel with the team coaches and Narinderpal will be with the contingent as manager.

In the girls’ squad Vinay, Vanshika, Bhavreet Kaur, Priya, Saina, Sukhman Kaur, Gurnoor Kaur, Pawanpreet Kaur, Tishmeet Kaur, Deepika and Tanvir Kaur have made the cut. Bhavkhandan Singh and Ravinder Gill will accompany the team as coaches, and Charanjit Kaur has been named manager.

Extending best wishes to the teams, Punjab Basketball Association secretary Teja Singh Dhaliwal said the state has produced outstanding basketball talent and expressed hope the players would uphold the rich legacy in the national championship. He urged the players to compete with discipline, confidence and team spirit.
