Kota Kinabalu: An 11-year-old pupil was seriously injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Darau in Manggatal, on Monday morning.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain said police received a report on the incident at 8.03am on Oct 26.
Preliminary investigations found that a Proton Waja driven by a 69-year-old man was travelling from Manggatal town towards CKS Manggatal when it reached the school along Jalan Tuaran Lama.
“The car struck the victim, who was believed to have been running across the road from right to left,” he said.
The pupil sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Likas Hospital for treatment. She was reported to be in the hospital’s red-zone emergency ward.
Shahrudin said the vehicle had been seized for inspection by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He said police were continuing their investigations, including recording statements from those involved and obtaining closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding area.
Members of the public with information on the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Sgt Mazlan Mursalam at 012-303 6605 or report to the nearest police station.
