The 22-year-old student who drove under the influence of alcohol pleaded not guilty to the charge after crashing into a security barrier at Istana Negara.
According to the charge, M Kajen, 22, was driving a Toyota Vios with an alcohol content of 166 milligrams (mg) per 100 millilitres of blood, exceeding the permitted limit. The offence was allegedly committed at Gate 2, Istana Negara, along Jalan Changkat Semantan, at around 3:50 AM on Friday (23 January). He was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
If found guilty, Kajen faces a fine of up to RM10,000 or a maximum prison sentence of five years
The prosecuting officer, Inspector Shazwan Hasifi Shahrun, offered bail at RM10,000. However, the accused appealed for a lower bail, citing that he is still pursuing his degree and does not come from a high-income family.
Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM4,000 with one surety and set 26 February as the case mention date for the submission of documents, as reported by Sinar Harian.

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the suspect was travelling in a Toyota Vios from Bukit Damansara when he rammed into the security barrier at the National Palace.
No deaths or injuries were reported, and the student was hauled to court on the same morning.
