In January of last year, Singaporean social media was lit with heated debates over whether one should take a shower before stepping out of the house, sparking a cheeky slogan named “Mandilah Singapura”.
A little more than a year later, this topic has once again cropped up on the Internet, this time concerning those who don’t shower before boarding a flight.
‘Put them in jail!’
In a TikTok video by Singaporean content creator Rurusama (@kirbyruruagain), she expressed disgust over passengers who don’t see the need to take a shower before boarding their flight.
She then put forth a suggestion that she believes would solve the problem: throwing said passengers into prison.
People who don’t shower before they get on the flight should be arrested. Put them in jail!
“Because why are you going up the plane already marinated? You’re a seasoned chicken that’s been marinated in the fridge for like 12 hours.”
Rurusama also rejected claims that putting on deodorant or perfume was counted as showering, adding: “I don’t want to smell you before I ever reach my seat.”
She later told MS News that the video was based on her experience during a flight back to Singapore from Japan.
“I was stuck between two passengers who just obviously didn’t shower. It has happened before, but I think this was the worst case ever. It smells so sour.”
“I also lost my appetite because I was stuck in the middle seat, with both of their scents mixed together,” she recounted.
Showering a day before invalid
Rurusama also called out those who argued that all’s well if they were to shower a day before their flight, retorting: “Some people argue that, oh babe, I showered last night. I ate yesterday too. I took a sh** yesterday too.
“Shower at every major plot points in your life,” she said.
Netizens were in full support of the content creator’s remarks, with one writing: ‘As a cabin crew, thank you for saying this.’
Although one netizen agreed with Rurusama’s take, he defended those who might have stayed overnight at the airport or been transferred from another flight.
