Kota Kinabalu: Kampung Potuki and Kampung Pasir Putih have been identified as sites for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Putatan.
State Public Works Minister Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya said the need to provide PPR in the area was very high with the majority of the population being in the B40 and middle-class groups.
“As is known, two-storey terraced houses in the Putatan area are priced above RM500,000 and even a three-room apartment unit costs RM400,000 and above.
“Individual income does not increase in the same ratio as house price increases, therefore it is important to ensure early preparation because land prices will always increase from year to year.
“This will be the cause of urban poverty with high transport costs, living costs, rental rates or house prices.
“If planning is not taken to deal with the problem, within 10 to 15 years the issue of the urban poor will arise in Putatan,” he said during the Oath-Taking Ceremony and Handover of the Instructions of Putatan District Council members, here.
Also present were Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, Putatan District Officer Mokhtar Hussin and Putatan District Council Executive Officer Ahmad Helmy Mohd Taib.
