Perak’s 15-year-old archer Puteri Qaira Hairol Supfian wins SUKMA 2026 women’s individual compound 50m gold after edging Sabah’s Catherine Looi 143-142
KAJANG: Perak archer Puteri Qaira Hairol Supfian bounced back from the disappointment of settling for silver in the qualifying round to win the women’s individual compound 50-metre (m) gold at the Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.
The 15-year-old edged Sabah’s Catherine Looi Mei Qi Abdullah 143-142 in a closely fought final at the INSPEN Stadium here to claim the gold medal.
The victory was particularly sweet for Puteri Qaira as she avenged her defeat to Catherine in the qualifying round, where she also lost by just one point.
“Not really (for revenge). I just tried to do my best.
“But when I was announced as the winner, I felt relieved because my opponent was also very good,” she told reporters after the match today.
Sarawak’s Wee Yee Qi took the bronze in the women’s individual compound event after defeating host representative Nur Alyaa Nazurah Fadzil 145-140.
Meanwhile, Terengganu’s Muhammad Akmal Danial Baharuddin clinched his second gold in the men’s individual compound event after defeating Penang’s Lee Meng Zhe 147-144.
Muhammad Akmal Danial had earlier won gold in the individual compound qualifying round.
Muhammad Aiman Syafiq Mohd Tariki took the bronze after defeating Penang’s Mevnesh Rethinakumar 146-140.
