Malaysia’s S. Sivasangari fought hard but lost 3-2 to world No.1 Hania El Hammamy in a thrilling Qatar Classic semi-final in Doha
NATIONAL women’s squash player S. Sivasangari came agonisingly close to an upset before falling to world number one Hania El Hammamy of Egypt in the semi-finals of the Qatar Classic in Doha yesterday.
The fourth-seeded Malaysian made an impressive start, taking the opening set 11-8 before Hania fought back to win the next two sets 11-9, 15-13.
Sivasangari refused to relent, raising the intensity of her game to claim the fourth set 11-8 and force a decider.
However, Hania held her nerve during the crucial stages to edge Sivasangari 12-10 in the fifth set, ending the Malaysian’s hopes of reaching the final.
Hania will face compatriot Amina Orfi in the final after the latter defeated England’s Jasmine Hutton 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.
