Quiambao's Skygunners dethrone Tamayo's Sakers, advance to KBL Finals

MANILA, Philippines — Kevin Quiambao powered the Goyang Sono Skygunners to a 90-80 semifinals Game 3 win at the Goyang Sono Arena on Monday, sweeping and dethroning Carl Tamayo's Changwon LG Sakers at the 2026 Korean Basketball League (KBL) season.

Quiambao rose above fellow Filipino import Tamayo, tallying 17 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the best-of-5 semis Game 3 clincher, leading the No. 5 Skygunners to the Finals.

On the other hand, Tamayo posted nine points as the No. 1 Sakers' repeat bid ended.

Quiambao drew support from Lee Jung-hyun who also posted 17 points in the victory.

Quiambao and the Skygunners thereby stayed unbeaten in the KBL playoffs, having swept the Seol SK Knights in the quarterfinals as well.

Goyang looks to become the second No. 5 seed team to win the championship in KBL playoff history.

The Busan KCC Egis were the first No. 5 seed team to seize the title in the 2024 season.

Quiambao and the Skygunners will face the winner in the other semifinal series between the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters and the Busan KCC Egis.

The other semis pairing is tied at 1-1 with Game 3 of the best-of 5 affair set on Tuesday evening.

Like Goyang and Changwon, Anyang and Busan also feature Filipino imports, with Rhenz Abando playing for the Red Boosters and William Navarro for Egis.
