Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh on Tuesday issued a heartfelt appeal to the youngsters of Punjab to quit drugs and have milk, curd and ghee, the products Punjab is known for. After meeting BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh — who has roped in the singer to help Punjab get drug free — Singh said the state, its families, its youth were getting destroyed because of the consumption of drugs.
He said he would work with the BJP and Chugh to help the youth of Punjab lose the deadly habit.
In statements released today, Chugh and Honey Singh addressed the youngsters of the state and said that Punjab is a land of the Gurus, of valour, of stout physiques and beauty and that is the Punjab everyone needs to reestablish.
In a video, Chugh and Singh are seen sharing a glass of milk.
Chugh today said if Honey Singh could return from the dark spell drugs cast on his life, anyone can.
“Yo Yo Honey Singh is Punjab’s son who has raised his profile all over the world. His life is inspiring. How he reached the pinnacle, then fell in bad company, and then recovered again. It took him eight years but he came back from drugs," Chugh said.
The BJP leader said he has appealed to Singh to help Punjab youth leave drugs and learn from his personal experience.
“In the land of rivers, now drugs are flowing and eating into the vitals of our state. Honey Singh has promised to help me save Punjab from drugs. If anyone tells Punjab youth they have only six months to live, do not believe them. You can still come back," said Chugh as the BJP makes drug free Punjab a major campaign point for the 2027 Punjab polls.
Honey Singh is among the few people who have publicly acknowledged their drug addiction and shared their journey to recovery. He quit drugs in 2014 when it began impacting his health but it took him eight years to get the substance out of his system.
“Do not even go close to these substances that nearly destroyed my life," Honey Singh has said to the youth.
