SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian government through the Foreign Ministry has been urged to bring back the ambassador in Sweden as a strong diplomatic reaction to the country's lack of seriousness in dealing with Islamophobia.
Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said it followed the provocative and heinous act of an Iraqi living in Sweden who burned a copy of the Quran outside a mosque in Stockholm last Wednesday.
He said the incident was not the first time, but the authorities' response was very disappointing.
"All forms of protest from many countries and parties before also failed to prevent the same thing from continuing to happen.
"Therefore, Pas believes that the Malaysian government needs to take stricter and active steps to show our seriousness in this issue, in addition to highlighting the message of peace and brotherhood that Islam brings, which is also the policy and principles of our country," he said this on his Facebook yesterday.
The act of Quran burning in front of a mosque in Sweden was done by two individuals where one individual was a 37-year-old Iraqi refugee Salwan Momika who tore the Quran and burned it.
The person with Momika was seen shouting using a loudspeaker.
The act was done in front of about 200 individuals including journalists.
