
- Race Across the World duo – and in-laws – Mark and Margo reflected on the passing of Mark's wife and Margo's sister Julia, who died from the rare blood cancer myelofibrosis in 2022.
- The pair did not really get along when Julia was alive, but grew closer as they cared for her throughout her illness. They then revealed that Julia's last wishes were for the pair to remain close after she died, providing the motivation for them to apply for the show.
- Mark reflected on caring for Julia during episode one of series six, saying that he made sure she was "comfortable and safe" but it was Margo who "gave her the will to live... that excitement and a spark of life".
- Margo added that she would often leave her partner behind for weeks at a time to care for Julia, and reminisced about "sitting with her, eating sweets, drinking cups of tea, giggling and having fun".
- Mark hailed Margo, saying that she helped to alleviate his stress on the show. He said: "It's the Margot effect. If she's not worried, I'm not worried".
