Malaysia’s Rachel Arnold loses to Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy in China Open quarter-finals, ending her title defence in Shanghai.

SHANGHAI: Malaysia’s squash title defence at the China Open 2025 concluded with Rachel Arnold’s quarter-final exit against top seed Hania El Hammamy of Egypt.

The unseeded defending champion fell 7-11, 1-11, 11-6, 6-11 in a 37-minute match at Xian Xia Tennis Centre.

Hania will now face Japan’s fourth seed Satomi Watanabe in the semi-finals.

Watanabe advanced by defeating Egypt’s eighth seed Sana Ibrahim 11-9, 11-8, 11-4 in their quarter-final encounter.

Rachel had claimed the China Open title last year by beating Egypt’s Farida Mohamed 11-5, 11-8, 11-8.

The defeat marks the end of Malaysian involvement in the tournament. – Bernama
