The death of 14-year-old SMK Danau Kota student Keziah Nisha has renewed concerns over bullying and alleged racial remarks in schools.

Political Secretary to the finance minister, Kamil Munim, expressed condolences to her family and called for a thorough, transparent, and fair investigation, urging the public not to jump to conclusions before the facts are established.

The death of 14-year-old SMK Danau Kota student Keziah Nisha has sparked concern over alleged bullying, with her family claiming she had reported the issue to them since FEBRUARY.

In the Education Ministry’s investigation, the school authorities have to answer what action they took since February to respond and take corrective action to avoid such a suicide by a 14-year-old girl. Malaysians are asking: “What was the trained counselling teacher in the school doing?”

Her parents had reportedly raised the matter with the school, but the family questioned whether sufficient action had been taken and urged authorities to expedite the investigation.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has ordered an internal investigation, including concerns over possible bullying and racism, while the Ministry continues to cooperate with the police and other agencies.

MPs have also called for schools to be safer spaces for students to speak up. The case serves as a reminder that bullying complaints must never be overlooked and that swift intervention is crucial to prevent further tragedies.

PMX Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Kamil also stressed the need to address racism and bullying among children, reminding parents, teachers and society.

“Students facing bullying are encouraged to speak up, report incidents to trusted adults or school authorities, and seek help through the Education Ministry’s Bullying Complaint Portal or Talian Kasih 15999,” he said. CLICK for more helplines.
