The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has firmly dismissed allegations suggesting that its officers were deployed to target individuals contesting in the PKR party elections. The claims surfaced during a recent podcast featuring Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, prompting MACC to issue a detailed response stating that the accusations were unfounded and lacked any factual basis.

In its statement, the commission stressed that investigations are initiated strictly through valid complaints or credible information. It explained that every report with sufficient merit undergoes verification, followed by inquiries conducted in accordance with existing laws and established procedures. The commission highlighted that this process is consistently applied across all cases, without political influence or selective enforcement.

MACC also addressed claims that officers had allegedly surrounded the homes of certain individuals. It clarified that its personnel were present solely to carry out a search and gather evidence as part of an ongoing investigation. The commission pointed out that the use of an element of surprise is standard practice to prevent the destruction or removal of potential evidence. According to the statement, officers had left the premises upon confirming that the person they sought was not at home.

The individual involved later appeared at the MACC office to provide his statement voluntarily, and no detention took place. This, MACC said, demonstrated that its actions were procedural rather than coercive.

For parties dissatisfied with its conduct, MACC reminded the public that there are formal avenues to lodge complaints, including through the police or the MACC Complaints Committee. These channels, it noted, offer a transparent mechanism to scrutinise allegations of misconduct or abuse of power.

The commission urged all parties to refrain from making baseless accusations on social media, cautioning that such claims can erode public trust in national enforcement agencies. It reiterated its commitment to operating independently and professionally, emphasising that unwarranted allegations only serve to undermine institutions tasked with safeguarding integrity and accountability.
