Sabah DAP has firmly dismissed suggestions that the party had initiated any move to join the state administration, stressing that no letter or request was ever sent to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. The clarification emerged as one of the key issues deliberated during the Sabah DAP Committee Meeting held on Sunday, where leaders examined the party’s performance in the recent 17th State Election (PRN17) and outlined strategic steps for the future.
Party chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said the meeting focused on reviewing the election outcome and determining the direction Sabah DAP must take to rebuild its position. He acknowledged that the results reflected a significant erosion of trust among voters toward DAP and Pakatan Harapan (PH), and emphasised the need for urgent corrective measures to regain public confidence.
The committee expressed full support for Phoong’s earlier decision not to accept any position within the state government. The leadership reiterated that no correspondence had ever been sent to the Chief Minister regarding participation in the administration, rejecting recent speculation that hinted otherwise.
Phoong also responded to recent policy announcements from Putrajaya. He welcomed the Prime Minister’s decision to raise the e-invoice implementation threshold to RM1 million and begin the process of returning 40 percent of federal revenue owed to Sabah, describing the moves as positive steps. However, he stressed that Sabahans expect more substantial reforms, and said the momentum for institutional change must accelerate.
He added that improvements to Sabah’s economic landscape remain critical. This includes strengthening transparency, cutting bureaucratic hurdles and easing the financial strain faced by ordinary citizens. According to him, such reforms are necessary not only to lift economic prospects but also to restore public trust in governing institutions.
In the statement, Phoong expressed appreciation for party volunteers, campaign workers and supporters who remained steadfast throughout the election period. He said their dedication continues to inspire the party as it prepares for future political challenges.
Sabah DAP also extended condolences to the family of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, Sabah Barisan Nasional Chairman and Kinabatangan Member of Parliament, who recently passed away.
The party reiterated that its focus remains on rebuilding internal strength, restoring voter confidence and pushing for meaningful reforms that address the aspirations of Sabahans.
