Former Economy Minister and Bersama founder Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli spent nearly two hours at Bukit Aman giving statements on his Selayang ceramah speech and a previous police report on Tan Sri Azam Baki’s share ownership.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli turned up at the Bukit Aman Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Headquarters today to give his statement regarding a speech he delivered at a ceramah in Selayang, Selangor, last month.

Rafizi, who is also founder of the Bersama party, arrived at about 10.57 am accompanied by his lawyers Nik Zarith Nik Mustapha, Adi Zulkarnain Zulkafli and Wan Ahmad Qushairi Adzmi.

Yesterday, Rafizi confirmed in a statement that he had received a police notice instructing him to appear to have his statement recorded following a report lodged on Oct 22 over his ceramah in Selayang on Oct 20.

He said the investigation was being conducted under Sections 500 and 505 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation and statements conducive to public mischief, respectively.

The police investigation notice was related, among others, to remarks he made during his speech in which he raised several allegations, including issues concerning a “corporate mafia” and an alleged payment of RM9.5 million to a political leader.

Rafizi also said he was prepared to give his full cooperation to the authorities throughout the investigation and was willing to cancel his campaign programme in Melaka to attend and give his statement today.

Meanwhile, Rafizi, who spoke to reporters after the process was over at about 1.05 pm, said he turned up to assist in investigations into two separate cases arising from two different police reports.

He said that in addition to the investigation over his ceramah in Selayang, his statement was also recorded in connection with a police report lodged in March concerning the share ownership issue involving former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

“Both cases are being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. That is why this statement recording session took quite a long time (nearly two hours) because there were two different cases,” he said.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid said Bukit Aman would issue an official statement soon on the latest developments in the investigations involving Rafizi.

“This matter is still under investigation, we will leave it to the relevant parties for now, and I will issue a statement later,” he told reporters at the PDRM 2026 Academic and Professional Excellence Recognition Ceremony at the Royal Malaysian Police College in Cheras today.
