A volleyball player from Rajasthan was allegedly beaten to death in Faridabad over a love affair. The family alleged that the girl’s relatives kidnapped the youth, kept him tied up for three days, starved him and assaulted him repeatedly.

They later dumped him outside the house in a critical condition. The police admitted him to hospital two days ago, where he died during treatment on Friday. An FIR has been registered and two suspects detained.

The deceased was identified as Monu (21), a resident of Saidpur village in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. He was allegedly in a relationship with a girl from the Tigaon area of Faridabad. The girl is a minor and her maternal uncle lives in Saidpur village, where the two met.

Narender Kumar, Monu’s uncle, said the victim had won several state-level medals in volleyball. Monu had passed Class 12 this year with 70 per cent marks. In April, a case was registered against him at Tigaon police station for allegedly kidnapping the minor girl, who was later traced. The police had been investigating the matter since then.

“On May 17, Monu left home saying he was going to Tigaon police station after being called for questioning. During this time, the girl’s family kidnapped him from the road. He was tortured from May 17 to May 20 and later thrown out of the house. The same day, the police informed us that Monu had been injured and taken to hospital. We reached there immediately, where he died on Friday,” Narender Kumar said.

“Based on a complaint by Monu’s family, a case has been registered under charges of kidnapping and other sections. The matter is under investigation. Two suspects have been detained and are being questioned,” a Faridabad Police spokesperson said.
