Jiu-jitsu athletes Annie Ramirez and Yman Xavier Baluyo were named as flag bearers for the Philippines at the Asian Beach Games which starts next week in China.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) made the announcement late on Thursday.
Ramirez is the reigning Asian Games champion in the women’s 57-kilogram division, while Baluyo recently won a silver medal at the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines national selection trials last September.
“Strength, honor, and pride—may they lead our athletes with the true spirit of Filipino excellence,” the POC said.
The 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China will be held from April 22 to 30. It is the first event organized by the Olympic Council of Asia before the main Asian Games, which will be held in Nagoya later this year.
