RANAU: Hundreds of people in several areas here were left high and dry after their taps turned dry for six consecutive days.

No parties have shown up to offer any solution and it is up to anyone’s effort to look for clean water. Some of those affected were forced to scoop water from unclean streams.

“It is very unfortunate for us here because we just went through a series of flash floods, and now an unending traffic congestion due to the broken Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan road as well as no clean water supply,” said a disgruntled villager.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister cum Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir, when contacted, said he was informed by the Water Department that there was a public notice about the matter.

“There was no water supply because of a broken six-inch pipe in front of Sabindo Supermarket. Work to repair the pipe was completed on Tuesday night, so the water supply is now on and will gradually return to normal,” he said.

Water woes in the district are a recurring problem that seems to have no solution as whenever there is heavy rain uphill, the taps will go dry for several days.

As of 6pm Wednesday, there was still no water supply in Kg Lukapon and the fate of the people here continued to be unanswered.
