Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Thursday urged young people, particularly those from rural areas, to explore opportunities in industry and entrepreneurship, saying technology, innovation and industrial growth will play a crucial role in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Addressing the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan in Gurugram, organised to mark 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led Central Government, the minister said India had witnessed remarkable progress in development, governance and public welfare over the past decade. Representatives of gram panchayats, gram sachivs, zila parishads, block samitis and various government departments attended the event. Highlighting the impact of flagship welfare schemes, Rao Narbir said initiatives such as the Kisan Credit Card Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and Har Ghar Jal had significantly improved the lives of farmers and rural communities. He said people from every section of society were contributing to the country’s growth as India advanced towards its 2047 development goal.
The minister said India had evolved from a nation dependent on wheat imports to one capable of feeding its population and contributing to global food security. However, he stressed that agricultural growth alone would not be sufficient to achieve developed-nation status.
“Equal emphasis must be given to technology, innovation and industrial development. Several smaller countries have become developed economies through industrialisation and technological advancement, and India must move in the same direction,” he said.
Referring to Haryana’s new industrial policy, Rao Narbir said the state government had taken significant steps to attract investment and generate employment. He urged youth to seize emerging opportunities in manufacturing, entrepreneurship and related sectors.
The minister also emphasised environmental conservation, saying sustainable development could only be achieved by balancing economic growth with ecological protection. He appealed to citizens to participate in plantation drives during the monsoon and ensure proper care of saplings planted under initiatives such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign.
Expressing concern over rising pollution, Rao Narbir called for a complete ban on single-use plastic and polythene at the community level. He urged panchayat representatives to launch awareness campaigns and work towards making villages polythene-free.
“If society and government work together, Gurugram can become a clean, green and pollution-free district,” he said.
