Kota Kinabalu: A 68-year-old farmer, who was charged with raping an underage girl in Ranau, three years will go on trial on Sept 17.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus set the date for Atib Bungong during mention of his case on Tuesday.

Atib was accused of committing the crime against the 14-year-old girl at 2pm in October 2021 in the bushes by the riverside in a village in Ranau.

On Feb 7, 2023, he claimed trial to the charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.

In Tuesday’s proceedings, the prosecution in applying for a trial date informed the court that they have around six to seven witnesses.

The court heard that four of the witnesses are from Ranau.

Elsie set the trial to be heard in the Sessions Court in Ranau.

Pending the date, Atib was ordered to be remanded further.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Atiqa Nazihah Azmi prosecuted.

Atib was not represented.
