Rapist who faked his own death and fled to Scotland dies in US hospital

  • Nicholas Rossi, an American rapist who faked his own death, has died in a US hospital at the age of 38.
  • He was serving a jail sentence in Utah for the rape of two women in 2008, having been extradited from the UK earlier this year.
  • The Utah Department of Corrections confirmed his death resulted from complications of an existing medical condition after he chose to discontinue medical treatment.
  • Rossi, also known as Nicholas Alahverdian, was captured in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2021 after hospital staff recognised his distinctive tattoos from an Interpol notice while he was being treated for Covid-19.
  • He had vehemently denied his identity during extradition proceedings, claiming to be an Irish orphan named Arthur Knight, but a Scottish judge ruled against him, leading to his extradition to the US in January 2024.
