Manchester United prospective owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to take a key step towards buying the club.
The Glazer family are ready to sell United, with Ratcliffe and the Qatari royal family the two primary bidders.
Per The Sun, the INEOS chief will take a huge lead in the race to buy the club.
He is set to be named as the preferred bidder imminently by the Glazers and the Raine Group.
While Sheikh Jassim of Qatar wants to buy United outright, INEOS are willing to buy a majority stake and allow two of the Glazer siblings to remain as minority shareholders.
There is no clear indication of whether INEOS would clear United's debt, while Qatar have claimed they will make the club debt-free.
