KUALA LUMPUR - Law minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said says the the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) set up to look into former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas memoir is not meant to seek revenge.

She said rather than setting up a task force, a RCI would be a better channel to probe all allegations in the book.

"The RCI is not for us to blame, punish or imprison anyone. I have said in my previous statements that no one is a finding fault in anyone.

"How can we seek revenge if we are clueless what to revenge on?" she told reporters after officiating a institutional reform workshop.

On Jan 11, Azalina said the government had agreed to establish an RCI to holistically examine the allegations in the book written by Thomas titled 'My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.'

The decision was made after considering the recommendations proposed by the Special Task Force chaired by Datuk Seri Fong Joo Chung in its report.

However, the action was criticised by some who claimed it was more about political revenge.
