PM’s Department (Religious Affairs) backs Sultan Ibrahim’s call for thorough, transparent and uncompromising investigations into the RCI findings on Tabung Haji

PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) fully supports the decree by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who stressed that investigations into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) must be conducted thoroughly, transparently and without compromise.

Its Minister Dr Zulkifli Hasan said His Majesty’s concern underscored the importance of safeguarding the trust and confidence of Muslims in the country’s haj management and Islamic financial institutions.

“Firm and fair action based on the rule of law should be taken against any individual or entity found guilty of breaching trust and governance principles,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkifli said the government would not tolerate or compromise on any form of abuse of power, malpractice or management weaknesses that could jeopardise the interests of TH depositors.

“Every enforcement measure and improvement recommended by the RCI report will be scrutinised thoroughly to ensure that TH’s governance structure is strengthened to the highest level.

“This continued commitment is highly significant not only in upholding justice and accountability, but also in ensuring that past mistakes will not be repeated in the future,” he said.

He said the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) was committed to ensuring that TH remains a strong and reputable haj management institution that continues to enjoy the full confidence of Malaysians.

Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim called for investigations into the RCI report on TH to be carried out exhaustively.

His Majesty said the move was important to ensure that all those responsible were subject to appropriate action, as well as to ensure that similar incidents do not recur in the future.

In addition, Sultan Ibrahim decreed that investigations into the matter be conducted thoroughly, without compromise towards any party found guilty.

The RCI report, published on July 29, disclosed various significant findings concerning the management and governance of TH from 2014 to 2020.

A special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat will be held on Aug 11 to debate the report.
