KUALA LUMPUR - Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has been implementing the recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) in an orderly manner to safeguard depositors' interests, ensure Syariah compliance and maintain operational sustainability.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the RCI findings provided an opportunity to strengthen TH as an institution.
In a Facebook post today, he said TH continues to record strong financial performance while maintaining world-class haj management, as reflected in its consistent recognition with the Diamond category Labbaytum Award by the Saudi government.
"The implementation of the RCI recommendations and these achievements will continue to drive excellence, strengthen service innovation and deliver optimal returns to depositors.
"Accordingly, all religious agencies under the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) fully support efforts to ensure TH remains sustainable, continues to earn the trust of Muslims and retains its position as the nation's leading haj management institution," he said.
Zulkifli also said the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) welcomed the declassification of the RCI report, describing it as a reflection of the government's commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance.
He said TH has played a vital role for more than six decades in managing the savings and haj affairs of millions of Malaysian pilgrims, making it an internationally recognised model for Islamic fund management.
Earlier today, the Cabinet agreed to declassify the RCI report covering TH from 2014 to 2020.
Communications Minister and MADANI government spokesperson Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the report contained 25 recommendations, of which TH management had implemented 75 per cent.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would release the report to enable the public to review the findings into allegations involving the sale of TH's strategic assets. - BERNAMA
