Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admitted some relief after their 2-0 Champions League win against Chelsea.

Real won the first-leg on the quarterfinal thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio. Ben Chilwell also saw red for the visitors.

Former Chelsea keeper Courtois said: "Every time you play a big knockout match you're left with the sensation that you could have, should have, killed the tie off. And Chelsea nearly scored right at the end. This is a good result but we're bugged by the fact that we didn't score a third or even a fourth goal. I hope we don't regret not having added another when we play again next week.

"These are important moments. They threatened us with a good start to the match where they counterattacked well. That save I made after we scored was very valuable. Had they scored, it could have given us a big blow mentally. I was really pleased with that stop.

"We'll play next week's match as if this had been a draw. Just like we did against Barcelona in the cup last week, we go into the second leg needing to win. A bit like Chelsea needed when they came here last year in the quarter-final. We'll try to start well and powerfully next week. Our objective is to score first and to win again."
