Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the Club World Cup on Tuesday night in Miami, with Los Blancos booking a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The two sides played out an evenly matched half in the first period in Miami, with Randal Kolo Muani spurning a great chance when clean through, chipping an effort over the bar.
Madrid had the better of the chances as the half came to an end but it was all-square at the break, though that changed soon into the second half as Gonzalo Garcia headed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint cross.
Madrid were then dominant after going ahead, forcing Michele Di Gregorio into a number of impressive saves as the Juventus attacking threat faded.
And Los Blancos were able to close the game out fairly comfortably late on, to book a quarter-final tie against either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.

Mbappe makes Club World Cup debut as Frenchman’s return provides boost for Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe made his Club World Cup debut in the 1-0 win over Juventus on Tuesday, with the Frenchman providing a reminder of what he can bring to Xabi Alonso’s changing Real Madrid side.
Mbappe came on for Gonzalo Garcia in the 68th minute of the match in Miami, with the latter having opened the scoring not long before with a brilliant header.
The Madrid academy product has thrived when given the opportunity under the absence of Mbappe, but the Frenchman made his return and was energetic throughout, linking up well with Vinicius Jr in attack and almost prodding home from one of the Brazilian’s crosses.

Real Madrid hit their stride at the Club World Cup on Tuesday, edging Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals thanks to a second-half strike from academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia as Kylian Mbappe made his tournament debut.
Garcia, deputising for Mbappe after the France forward missed the group stage due to gastroenteritis, found the back of the net early in the second half to set up a meeting with either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.
Mbappe made his much-anticipated appearance as a second-half substitute, delighting the partisan crowd who packed Hard Rock Stadium to near capacity in a demonstration of the Spanish giants considerable global appeal.

Thibaut Courtois was also speaking to DAZN.
“I think we had a good game, we started feeling how it was going, they defended more than we expected. After that we tried to control the game a bit more,” he said.
“In the second half we had a lot of chances, we scored and we defended well. I think in the second half they shot twice, so we had a good defence.
“We want to push everyone to be on top and be focused. We’re keeping on growing, we try to do better each game. We want to finish the first part with him [Xabi Alonso] in the final,” he adds.
On Alexnader-Arnold, he adds: “He’s horrible in training, his crossing is amazing, his free-kicks and corner kicks. I don’t think I’ve seen a guy with this quality. As a keeper it keeps you on your feet.”

Madrid captain Fede Valverde was talking to DAZN after the game.
“We had a lot of chances, credit to us, we were working in attack and defence. We’re looking to improve,” he said.
“We tried to control the game, attack the game.
“Gonzalo deserves it [his goal], he works very well, he’s a player from the academy, he got an opportunity and he’s taking it. He needs to continue working,” he adds.
On his role as captain, he adds: “I try to get the best out of my teamates, I try to send a message.”

Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the Club World Cup on Tuesday night in Miami, with Los Blancos booking a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The match started slowly at the Hard Rock Stadium with both sides trading blows in the first half, but it sprung into life when Gonzalo Garcia headed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.
Madrid dominated from there as Juventus slowly faded, with the Italians simply unable to put together any spell of sustained attacking pressure as Madrid closed the game out well.
Here are how the players rated from the match in Miami:

It wasn’t a classic in Miami, and it was a strange game in many ways, with Juventus really fading as it went on.
However, it was a composed and professional performance from Madrid, who find themselves in the quarter-finals after a great goal from Gonzalo Garcia.
Fede Valverde and Michele Di Gregorio were also both impressive tonight.

Club World Cup 2025: Results, fixtures and knockout schedule after Man City stunned by Al-Hilal
19:45
,
Chris Wilson
The Fifa Club World Cup 2025 continues with Chelsea in the last eight but Manchester City are out after suffering a shock loss to Al-Hilal.
Real Madrid will hope to avoid another upset later tonight when they take on Juventus, with Borussia Dortmund rounding out the last 16 against Monterrey.
Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich are now preparing to take on Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals.
Find out everything you need to know about the competition below.

How Juventus reached the last 16

Chris Wilson
Juventus started the tournament with two great results, beating Al Ain 5-0 in their opener before a 4-1 win over Wydad Casablanca in the second match of the campaign.
However, the team’s flaws were exposed fairly dramatically against Man City in the final match of the groups, with Pep Guardiola’s side dismantling Juve in a 5-2 win.
The Italian side will be overwhelming underdogs tonight after that showing in Orlando.

How Madrid reached the last 16

Madrid’s opening match of the tournament ended with a disappointing 1-1 draw to Al-Hilal, but they followed it up with a 3-1 win over Pachuca to all but seal qualification.
Their final game brought a 3-0 win over RB Salzburg, with some hints of a team beginning to find its rhythm visible in that one.
Which version of Madrid will we get tonight?

The biggest Club World Cup question is still unanswered – does anyone care?

There is the £1bn broadcasting deal, the £97m prize for the winners, the guarantee of a minimum of over £30m in revenue for the Premier League participants. There is the possibility of the kind of windfall that could bring domestic dominance for a club from outside Europe. There is the potential reward of cracking America, as everyone looks to build their brand.
In a sense, though, the Club World Cup depends upon a different kind of investment. Whatever the big financial figures, it needs buy-in: not from Fifa’s partners but from the part of the footballing family who are rarely consulted, the fans.
The Club World Cup is in a battle for hearts and minds and eyeballs. It is a matter if – and it is too early to draw definitive conclusions – people buy into it; if they invest their time, their hopes and their emotions.
