Recto: Nothing unusual with giving travel authority day before trip

MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Friday said there was nothing unusual with Malacañang granting a travel authority a day before the trip of a government official.

Recto issued the statement after Vice President Sara Duterte claimed that the Office of the President belatedly issued her travel authority on purpose to derail her plans.

Speaking to reporters in Batangas City, Recto denied that Duterte's travel request was approved at the last minute.

"As there are many travel authority, it usually happens that we issued it a day before the trip," Recto said during a chance interview.

Based on a document signed by Recto, Duterte has been granted travel authority to the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from April 23 to May 15.
