Recyclable materials pile catches fire in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM - A pile of recyclable materials covering 0.81 hectares caught fire at a factory along Jalan Nagasari, Section 36, here today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Muhlis Mukhtar said they were alerted to the incident at 1.24pm, after which personnel were deployed to the location.

"The operations commander reported that the fire involved a pile of recyclable items in an open area spanning two acres. No casualties have been reported, and firefighting operations are underway,” he said in a statement.

He said the operation, which began at 1.36 pm, involved 31 officers and personnel from the Shah Alam, Klang Selatan, Klang Utara, Andalas, Port Klang and Bukit Jelutong fire and rescue stations.

"The Rantau Panjang Volunteer Fire Brigade was also mobilised to expedite operations and prevent the fire from spreading,” he said.

Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing thick black smoke visible from a supermarket along Jalan Kebun, Klang, near here. - BERNAMA
