- Reform UK councillor Christine Duffy decided to withdraw her resignation after mistakenly sending her resignation letter to the wrong council authority.
- Writing on 4 August, Ms Duffy initially sought to step down from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council after stating she had received very little or no training for her role.
- The resignation letter was delivered to Kidsgrove Town Council in error, enabling Ms Duffy to formally withdraw her resignation before it reached the correct council officer.
- Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council chief executive Gordon Mole confirmed that Ms Duffy remains a borough councillor because the content of the letter was withdrawn before he received it.
- Ms Duffy strongly criticised local political group Kidsgrove Independents for leaking her private letter and insisted she remains committed to representing her local residents.
