This year's Malaysia Day will be celebrated on 16 September, 2025 at the PICC@Arena Butterworth in Penang on the mainland of Peninsula Malaysia. It will be featuring a variety of programs to further energize and enliven the National Day event held 31 August, 2025, while giving deeper meaning to the celebrations for the local community. It is in line with the practice of rotating the annual event between Sabah, Sarawak & Peninsula Malaysia. Last year the event was held at the open venues of Padang Merdeka in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and in 2023 at the indoor Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching, Sarawak.
According to Communication Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, “This aims to strengthen ties between the states and foster a greater sense of togetherness & patriotism. In collaboration with the Penang State Government, and agencies under the Communication Ministry, and through the MADANI Community & National Information Dissemination Centre, for preparation of community-level programs are being held in Penang to bridge people to people relations.” (https://www.komunikasi.gov.my)
Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow said “Malaysia Day in Penang will highlight the nation's rich cultural diversity while promoting unity, progress & harmony. Performances will include Penang's famous boria & Teochew Chinese opera along classical dances from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sabah and Sarawak communities. Contemporary performance reflecting younger generation aspirations and popular Malaysian artistes will also feature prominently. The celebration's involve collaborative efforts of artistes, bands & orchestras sharing one grand stage to symbolize racial unity, national identity & love." (https://cm.penang.gov.my)

I understand Penang was selected to host the event to strengthen unity and promote the state as a major tourism destination in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026. It is an opportunity to highlight Penang's renowned gastronomy like nasi kandar, fish head curry & char kuey teow plus the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Culture Organization (UNESCO)-recognized George Town heritage. Malaysia Day will showcase our diversity in unity.
