Reject corrupt leaders who spread hatred

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to reject political leaders who spread hatred and enrich themselves through corruption, warning that such leadership will only lead to national ruin.

Speaking at the ‘Jelajah Wira MADANI’ tour and the 20th anniversary celebration of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) at the Sandakan Maritime Zone Complex, Anwar said the country must be led by individuals who govern with integrity and accountability.

“Do not choose leaders who destroy the country and sow seeds of hatred among the people. We must ensure the leadership is honest and governed with proper accountability,” he said.

“We often hear about leaders stealing here and there. This culture must end. Firm action is necessary,” he added.

Without naming individuals, Anwar took aim at those who had once amassed wealth through high office but continued to criticise others.

“Sometimes, these individuals were once powerful, enriched themselves with major projects, and yet they are still angry with others. That cannot be allowed. There must be genuine intent to correct the situation,” he said.

Also present at the event were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and APMM Director-General Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah.

Anwar also warned that defence and national security must not be compromised by corruption or mismanagement, regardless of the size of the defence budget.

“Leakages, extravagance and corruption must be stopped. No matter how great a nation is, it will fall if those entrusted are dishonest,” he stressed.

On the maritime front, Anwar expressed satisfaction with the improved performance of the APMM, following increased federal allocations to the agency.

He noted that Malaysia’s vast maritime territory requires continuous investment in both assets and operational readiness to deal with threats such as smuggling, human trafficking, drug operations and illegal intrusions.

“This country is peaceful, but we face real challenges. These require a disciplined and well-equipped force,” he said.

“Malaysia’s peace is made possible through the sacrifice and dedication of our security forces, including the APMM. We must always ensure they are well-prepared and their integrity upheld. This is a responsibility we must fulfil with sincerity,” he added. - September 27, 2025
