KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) President Datuk Voon Lee Shan called on voters in Sabah and Sarawak to reject Malayan-based parties and those supporting the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), saying the coming state elections are a choice between “colonisation or independence.”He said MA63 had been used for over 60 years as a tool to legitimise Malaya’s control, describing it as “manufactured consent” and “fraudulent” under international law.
“Colonisation allows Malaya to plunder our resources and revenues, leaving Sabah and Sarawak the poorest states while Malaya prospers,” he said in a press conference at the PBK’s office, here, Thursday.
He cited United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1514, which advocates for the decolonisation of all colonies.
He accused Malaya of using its dominance in Parliament to strip Sabah and Sarawak of their equal partner status and pass laws such as the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and the Territorial Sea Act 2012, centralising control of oil, gas and marine wealth.
“Sabah and Sarawak need oxygen to breathe. If they want to breathe well, they must choose independence, not colonisation,” he stressed, adding that PBK has peaceful legal strategies to pursue independence if given the mandate.
Voon confirmed that PBK will be contesting in the 17th Sabah Election, with the number of seats to be finalised on nomination day.
He said the 2021 High Court ruling in Kuching had affirmed that state governments held the right to pursue independence under international and domestic law.
“Your support for Parti Bumi Kenyalang is essential to set Sarawak and Sabah free and independent,” he said.
Also present were Sabah Chapter Chairperson Datin Soh Kee Kuat and former nominated assemblyman who is also PBK Deputy Chairman Datuk Ronnie Loh.
