Kota Kinabalu: The Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Vintage has raised disaster relief funds during the recent flash floods and landslides that claimed 14 lives across four districts.
The natural disasters struck Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar and Keningau, forcing over 3,000 victims from households to seek shelter in 28 temporary relief centres.
Club President Harry Vun led the immediate response effort, conducting on-ground assessments with Charter President Joel Lee and Lions Club of Penampang Host President Dr Randolf Paza on the first day of the disaster.
“Many families lost their homes and livelihoods overnight. We worked closely with village heads in Penampang and Papar to identify urgent needs,” said Harry.
The relief operation distributed essential supplies including mattresses, blankets, dry food, bottled water and daily necessities to affected areas.
Multiple organisations contributed to the fundraising effort, including the Lundus Rescue Team, Junior Chamber International branches, Sabah Environment Protection Association, local Rotary Clubs and various rescue and volunteer groups.
The funds will specifically support victims in Penampang and Papar, with the club calling for continued community support as families work to rebuild their lives.
The death toll included seven fatalities in Kota Kinabalu, five in Papar and one each in Penampang and Keningau.
