Kundasang: The management of Sabah Parks has taken various proactive measures the last nine years to improve safety when climbing Mount Kinabalu, said the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sabah Parks, Peter Lintar.

Among those taken include the construction of two climbing routes, namely the Kota Belud trail and the Ranau trail, as well as the establishment of the Mount Kinabalu High Level Rescue Team consisting of Mosar, Sabah Parks and Malim Gunung.

“We have also strengthened the Mount Kinabalu Rescue Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) through four Mountain Rescue Simulations and the installation of earthquake detection equipment on Mount Kinabalu and around the park,” he said.

He said this showed that the Sabah Government, through Sabah Parks, greatly appreciate the contribution and sacrifice of the victims while on duty as well as the climbers who died at the time of the 2015 earthquake.
