
Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed seven years and ordered to get three strokes of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.
Mohd Hairol Edin pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, to the charge against him.
He was found taking the drug on June 11 this year after testing positive for drugs at the Beaufort police station.
Mohd Hairol has several conviction records for taking the drug.
The offence, under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.
Mohd Hairol was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest in Labuan prison.
After completing his jail sentence, Mohd Hairol was ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.
Meanwhile, a man was jailed four months for entering the State illegally.
Azlan Wilson admitted to entering the State without his valid document.
The illegal immigrant was arrested after failing to produce his identification document to the police on July 5 this year at the city area.
During mitigation, Azlan asked to be deported to his hometown as soon as possible and the sentence to be served from the date of his arrest.
After completing his jail sentence, Azlan was ordered referred to the
Immigration Department for his biometrics data to be recorded before deportation.
