Repeat drug offenders: Jail, caning for duo

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane each for repeatedly taking drugs, respectively.

Jofreddy George @ Samuel and Adiasawandi Ajust pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to the charge against them.

Jofreddy was found taking the drug on March 15 after testing positive for drug at the Beaufort police station.

Adiasawandi had found repeated to take the drug on March 23 after his urine was tested positive for drug at the Ranau police station.

Both of them have several conviction records for taking the drug.

The offence under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Jofreddy and Adiasawandi to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests and to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving their jail sentence.

Meanwhile, two men were jailed four months plus a stroke of the cane each for entering the State illegally.

Jhohael Jhadil and Jaka Amil Hamza admitted separately to entering the State without their valid documents.

The illegal immigrants were arrested after failing to produce their identification documents.

They asked to be deported to their respective hometowns as soon as possible.

After completing their jail sentence, they were ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
