St Pauli Hamburg are parting ways with coach Alexander Blessin following their relegation from the Bundesliga, the Bild newspaper reported on Thursday.

Blessin has a contract with the club until 2027 but according to the report, both parties couldn't agree on a continuation of the work in the second division.

Bild added that former Holstein Kiel boss Marcel Rapp is to replace Blessin.

Following the relegation, Blessin had asked for time to think things over.

However, nearly three weeks after the end of the season, he hasn't been able to commit to St Pauli, which has led to doubts among the club's management. Blessin had repeatedly emphasized that the unsuccessful relegation battle had taken a heavy toll on him.

He joined St Pauli two years ago as the successor of promotion-winning coach Fabian Hürzeler.

After comfortably avoiding relegation in his first year, St Pauli were relegated in their second year under Blessin.
