Report: Syariah court not charging woman as Penal Code provides heavier sentence

PETALING JAYA: Siti Nuramira Abdullah who was charged with insulting Islam in a comedy club will not be charged under Syariah Law, NST reports.

Hannann Syoffeeya Zainal Shahrir, attached to the law firm representing Siti Nuramira, in a statement reportedly said her client was released by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) without bail or bond.

She said Jawi would contact her client or her legal team when they were ready to charge her.

It was reported that Siti Nuramira was re-arrested by Jawi as soon as she posted her RM20,000 bail at the Sessions Court.
