German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is close to joining Ajax Amsterdam on a one-year loan deal from Barcelona, Spanish sports newspaper AS reported on Thursday.
The 34-year-old, who missed the World Cup after a litany of injuries, no longer has any prospect of a regular starting place at the Spanish champions.
Ter Stegen joined later-relegated Girona on loan from Barcelona in January to gain match practice for the World Cup but a hamstring injury ended his hopes.
The keeper, who has won 44 Germany caps, is under contract at Barcelona until 2028.
