The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, has revealed that the outstanding rent amount for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) under the purview of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has reached RM70 million.

She added that the arrears are affecting the maintenance and management of facilities for communities in areas under DBKL’s supervision.

Maimunah was quoted by BERNAMA as saying that DBKL had taken several steps to deal with the arrears. These include cutting off the water supply, issuing notices, holding financial advocacy programmes and offering tenants an instalment payment plan.

She stressed that these initiatives were vital so that the rent collected could be used to provide better services for the PPR and PA residents.

DBKL may sell PPR and PA units to tenants who can afford them

Besides that, the Kuala Lumpur Mayor revealed that DBKL was considering reviewing a decision in 2015 which suspended the sale of PPR and PA units.

Instead, DBKL may offer PPR and PA units for sale to “financially capable” residents who can afford to purchase them.
