BATU PAHAT, Oct 9 — The family of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, 16, who was murdered last Saturday, has urged the public to stop speculating that relatives of the suspect had visited them.

According to Berita Harian (BH), her cousin, Mohamad Fauzi Bujang, 43, said the family was shocked by claims circulating on social media that the suspect’s relatives had met Irene Sofiya’s family days after the tragedy.

He stressed that the family had not received such a visit and asked the public to respect their grief.

“I do not know where they got this news from. I ask people out there to respect the family because we are still in mourning,” he told BH when contacted.

Fauzi added that he had confronted netizens spreading the claim and demanded proof, but none was provided. He said the family was disheartened by the false reports, which had intensified in recent days.

Separately, Fauzi said the family was touched by the continued support from the community, noting that Irene Sofiya’s grandparents’ home had remained filled with visitors even a week after the incident.

He said friends, teachers and neighbours had come to pay their respects.
