‘Rest in perfect peace’: Gambia High Commission leads tributes to family killed in Derby crash

  • Four Gambian nationals, including a seven-month-old girl, died in a car crash in Derby on Saturday night.
  • The tragedy occurred around 11pm when a red Hyundai, carrying five people, veered off the A38 near Toyota Island and collided with trees.
  • Two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene, while the infant died a short time later in hospital.
  • The 33-year-old male driver, who sustained serious injuries, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been bailed.
  • Tributes are being paid to the victims, identified by the Gambia Welfare Society in Leeds as Abu Camara, his wife, their daughter, and another family member, with the Gambia High Commission also expressing condolences, saying: “May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
