Chelsea are expected to pounce for Julian Nagelsmann after their sacking of Graham Potter on Sunday evening.
Potter was sacked after just seven months in charge following defeat at home to Aston Villa. The loss leaves Chelsea 12 points outside the top four.
The move comes as Nagelsmann was sacked a fortnight ago by Bayern Munich.
The Daily Mail says initial contact has been made with the German's agents as Bruno Saltor takes charge of Chelsea as caretaker.
However, Chelsea may struggle to persuade the 35-year-old to take a job so soon after his sacking at Bayern 10 days ago, but Nagelsmann, who is also wanted by Tottenham to replace Antonio Conte, is viewed by many at Stamford Bridge as the strongest candidate.
The decision to sack Potter has stunned many staff at Chelsea, as a Sunday media release was sent out confirming he would be conducting the pre-Liverpool press conference.
