Serving good drinks and spinning good albums, Eternyl Vinyl Café is looking to be the next go-to late night café. But is the spot a hidden music haven or will be a new hub for performative males? Read on to find out more.

Here is our review of Eternyl Vinyl Café

In the mid to late 2010s, I vividly remember collecting vinyl records to be the cool thing to do. Being a avid lover of older music, I did consider purchasing a turntable and a couple of records myself. But the one thing that drew my away was the exorbitant price of owning and maintaining an analog system.

Fast forward to a month ago, and I began seeing pictures of a Eternyl Vinyl Café on social media. The concept was intriguing, a cafe where you could listen to a selection of over 400 records while enjoying drinks and pastries. Located in Taman Paramount, the hipster hub of Petaling Jaya, I knew this place was bound to be a buzzy spot.

And when I arrived at around 8PM, I could understand why it had become a trendy spot among Gen Z’s and Millennial’s. The staircase leading up to the counter and the entire space was warmly lit to make a relaxed vibe. With smooth jazz playing in the background you instantly felt at ease and ready for a audible journey.

The drink menu served the usual Taman Paramount classics like strawberry matcha lattes, however there were also creative mocktails like the virgin mojito and watermelon soda. My partner and I ordered the later and booked a 90 minute slot for RM20. You can also book a 60 minute slot for RM10, but ordering a drink and a pastry are a minimum to entry. I would recommend anyone interested coming to make a booking in advance as the slots do get filled up fast between 8PM to 9PM

We took a couple of minutes to browse through their selection of records that night and I was quite pleased with the range of music. There were modern pop stars like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Drake, and Justin Bieber, but there were also albums from Daft Punk, Laufey, and we even found a Hannah Montanna LP. Additionally, I really liked the soundtrack selection, which featured music from Studio Ghibli films, 1970’s James Bond, and High School Musical. Well, whoever got the records together had some good music taste.

After choosing Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans, we sat on a couch with Beatles posters on the wall and had a pretty good night. Although there were a lot of people around, they were all using headphones, so it was pretty quite as everyone was in their own musical world.

The virgin mojito I ordered was refreshingly sweet with a sharp sour from the lime. Luckily, I’m a fan of mint and lime, so the booze-free mojito kept my senses open to Mars’ 2010s hits. Meanwhile, the watermelon soda had a refreshing bite from watermelon cubes and soda water but was balanced with Vitagen. An unusual pairing, but it somehow worked well.

Why you should check out Eternyl Vinyl Café

If you are someone who wants to listen and appreciate vinyl but don’t actually want to collect them, then this café is just right for you. For music lovers, this not-so-hidden cafe is a cosy retreat to listen to a wide range of records from artists old and new. The pastries and drinks were good but music is really the main draw of this cafe. And if you’re looking an analogue experience with no strings attached, consider checking out Eternyl Corner.
