Revilla defense hopes for the best on bail petition

MANILA, Philippines — The defense for former senator Ramon Revilla Jr. hoped for the best as it waited for the court ruling on his petition for bail.

"We said, ... hope for the best, just pray", lawyer Reody Anthony Balisi said in Filipino and English in an interview with reporters on Wednesday.

Revilla and six other people are facing a malversation through falsification case before the Sandiganbayan Third Division. It was filed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the alleged ghost project in Pandi, Bulacan.

Most of the accused filed bail petitions. Aside from Revilla, those who sought bail were Juanito Mendoza, Brice Hernandez, Arjay Domasig, Emelita Juat, and Christina Mae Pineda.

The court conducted a bail hearing on several dates starting Apr. 6, 2026. The hearing ended on Apr. 24, 2026 and the court's ruling was expected to be out soon.

The defense had said that there was no evidence that could link Revilla.
