The government will inform the public if the food supply situation changes, Mohamad Sabu said, assuring that rice stocks are enough despite changing weather conditions.
KOTA BHARU: The country’s food supply, including rice, remains sufficient and stable, and the public need not panic or resort to excessive buying in preparation for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) and the possibility of a Super El Nino phenomenon.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the country’s food supply remained under control, with no need at present for people to stockpile large quantities of essential items such as rice and eggs.
He said the government would inform the public if there were any changes in the country’s food supply situation that required specific action.
“There is no need to panic. Neither is there any need to buy and stockpile rice or large quantities of chicken eggs.
“Insya-Allah, if the situation reaches that stage, we will inform the public. For now, the food supply situation remains stable,” he told reporters after presenting the Padi Cultivation Takaful Scheme assistance at Bendang Belukar here today.
Mohamad also gave an assurance that the country’s rice supply was currently sufficient to meet public demand despite preparations for changing weather conditions and possible disruptions to the agri-food sector.
“It is sufficient. There is still enough rice, insya-Allah,” he said when asked about preparations for food stocks ahead of the Northeast Monsoon.
